Tyson Yunkaporta is an academic, art critic, and researcher based in Melbourne, Australia. He is a member of the Apalech Clan in North Queensland. Yunkaporta carves traditional tools and weapons and works as a senior lecturer in Indigenous Knowledge at Deakin University in Melbourne.
In 2019, Yunkaporta published Sand Talk: How Indigenous Thinking Changed the World. This book covers everything from echidnas to evolution, cosmology to cooking, sex and science, and spirits to Schrödinger’s cat.
Tyson Yunkaporta looks at global systems from an Indigenous perspective and asks how contemporary life diverges from the pattern of creation.
