The Path of Purpose is an online course – hosted by Kindling and authored by Peter Schulte – that helps aspiring change leaders acknowledge their innate genius and discover, declare, and live their true purpose. It is for anyone who wants to help build a brighter future yet perhaps feels powerless, overwhelmed, weary, or lost.
It is meant to be flexible, lightweight, and accessible to as many people as possible. Go as quickly or as slowly as you want. Participate in the community by sharing your own reflections or simply journal to yourself. Take on the ideas and invitations that are empowering or illuminating for you. Let go of those that aren’t.
This is not another responsibility or hoop to jump through. This is an opportunity for you to step into what makes you feel most alive so that you can offer your greatest gifts to the world.
The world today is overwhelming. It is almost impossibly immense, staggeringly complex, deeply ambiguous, and ever-changing. We have near-infinite news, information, perspectives, and opportunities right at our fingertips, all vying for our scarce time and attention.
More than that, humanity is beset by seemingly impossible, urgent challenges that demand the world of us: the climate crisis, oppression, war, poverty, authoritarianism, powerful yet potentially devastating new technologies, and a pervasive sense that things today just aren’t as they should be.
Humans today are inundated with more information than at any other time in history. Likewise, we perhaps demand more of ourselves than at any other time in history. How can we possibly sit idly by as the world around us crumbles? How can we possibly let a minute go by when we aren’t trying to save the world? We must go, go go. We must do more, more, more. We must bring ourselves to our breaking point on a daily basis. At least this is what many of us tell ourselves.
We yearn to “be the change.” And yet we struggle to figure out what we can do in such a vast world amid such deep, intractable challenges. We struggle to find our right path when the road forks out ahead of us in a hundred different directions. We struggle to find a way to be present and impactful while maintaining our sanity and peace of mind.
Introducing our flagship course
That’s the bad news. The good news is that it does not have to feel this way.
The Path of Purpose course helps you cut through the noise of today’s almost impossibly vast and demanding world so that you can focus on what really matters to you and where you can actually have your greatest impact. It helps you locate and nurture your unique genius and get rooted in a powerful yet manageable and realistic sense of purpose.
Through it, you will learn to say “yes” to that which most brings you alive and most leverages your innate gifts. But you will also learn to say “no” to all the roles, responsibilities, and ways of being that are not yours to take on, that are distracting you from your highest callings, that needlessly drain you of your energy.
We help give you your life back so that you can spend it fully living your purpose.
What is purpose?
There are many ways we might think of purpose. Purpose is our why: the deep meaning, motivation, and inspiration behind our life’s work. But purpose is also our how: the key gift we offer to the world, the ways we serve those around us, the core ways in which we enact change and impact that align with and leverage our greatest passions and talents. Purpose is both the act of giving away our gifts and the sense of fulfilment we get from that act.
One metaphor we might use for our life’s work is that of summiting a tall, wild mountain. We yearn to get to the top. So we will ourselves up, arduously hacking through the brush, pulling ourselves up boulders and crags, and trying to discern a workable path. We are working against gravity in order to realize our highest potential. This is how many of us live today.
The path of purpose is perhaps more like a river. When you align your life’s work to your true purpose, you are no longer working against gravity. You are paddling downstream. There is of course considerable effort required on your part. You must still propel yourself forward. And there will certainly be boulders, fallen trees, and rapids to navigate. But you also have a natural force moving with you, accelerating you forward. You are moving with the current of your life, not against it. You may not know what is around the next bend, but you can have confidence that it is the right way forward.
Purpose not only offers a deep sense of meaning and purpose, it is a powerful guide propelling you forward.
And if purpose is your guide through your life’s work, this course is your guide to purpose. Thank you for joining us.
